Sarreguemines Majolica Fruit Plates Set of Four

Item number: PYH 5662

This set of four colorful majolica plates were made by the Sarreguemines pottery in France. They measure 7 3/8 inches in diameter and weigh about 9 ounces each. Different fruits on a golden yellow/mustardy glazed background are depicted in the centers...grapes, strawberries, pears and cherries...surrounded by their appropriate green leaves, all molded and raised. The scalloped edges follow the shapes of the leaf tips.

The underside of each plate is marked. Two have a light stamp with the word "Sarreguemines France" with the letters DV superimposed on it (which denotes they were made at either their Digoin or Vitry-le-François factory) and also the word "France." The other two have both a "Sarreguemines France" dark ink stamp and also those words impressed. The plates date to the years circa 1920 to 1950.

All of the plates are in pristine condition---no chips, cracks or crazing---and they display beautifully. This is the most popular majolica pattern Sarreguemines produced and there are many different pieces to complete the set.
