This French majolica serving dish holds jam and other condiments on your table and makes a charming display piece, too. Created by the Sarreguemines pottery, this pot de confiture (jam pot) is part of their most popular majolica line that included plates and serving pieces.

Covered with molded, three-dimensional strawberries and green leaves on a sunny, golden yellow glaze, the 2 inch deep round bowl is attached to a 7 1/2 inch diameter plate. They're topped with a lid with three strawberries for a finial and a convenient opening for a serving spoon. Its overall height is 5 inches and it weighs about 1 3/4 pounds.

The stamped Sarreguemines France mark on the bottom has the letters DV superimposed over it, which indicates that it was made at either their Digoin or Vitry-le-François factory during the years 1920-1950. This French majolica piece is in excellent condition, with crazing but no chips or cracks. Its cheerful colors coordinate with many country French earthenware pieces.

★★P.S. The spoon shown is not included.
