Beautifully formed and glazed, this stoneware pottery basket was hand thrown by James (Jim) Wishon and decorated by Jerry Harrell. They partnered at their first pottery location, named Wishon-Harrell Pottery, in California in 1971; they eventually settled in Muncie, Indiana in the mid-1980's, when this basket was made. After Jerry Harrell passed away in the 1990's, the pottery went out of business. Their excellent pottery has become more and more popular over the intervening years.
The bowl of the basket measures 5 inches tall, 8 1/2 inches tall including the handle. It's 4 1/4 inches across and weighs 1 pound, 5 ounces. The dry bottom reveals the speckled clay used and it's hand signed WISHON HARRELL in script incised in the stoneware. The varied earth colors of rust, beige, olive green and brown in bands and swirls decorate the exterior as well as the applied strap handle.
The interior is fully glazed, speckled in brown against olive, and can be used for flowers that need water as well as dried and silks. The basket is in like-new condition, displays handsomely and is highly collectible.
