This tall, vintage Santos cage doll makes such an impressive display. Her carved head with sculpted hair and her articulating arms that are pinned at the shoulders with iron nails top the doll-like wooden body. That's set on four wooden slats that form the "cage," supported by a round base. Painted blue, with pale skin on face, shoulders and hands, she has reddish-brown hair. The paint is chippy and crackled.
This cage doll stands 28 1/4 inches tall on the 10 1/4 inch-diameter base and weighs 2 pounds 13 ounces. She was very soiled when we found her...it took a good hour to carefully clean her. This is not an antique piece, but rather one made in the 20th century. We've seen these cage dolls displayed with a plant or flowers inside the cage or hung with pearls and/or topped with a crown, but as you can see from our photos, she is just beautiful unadorned.
