This large acrylic on canvas is an original by artist Herb Kreutzer of Groves, Texas. It measures 24 inches by 36 inches, a size often referred to as a 'sofa painting.' Mr. Kreutzer's unique signature in pencil is on the back of the painting. It consists of his hand printed "Field of Dreams by Herb Kreutzer 2007," his sketch of a paint brush beneath it and his cursive signature below that. The painting is also signed on the front, lower right, in black "HERB '7."
Mr. Kreutzer and his wife,Cindy, also a fine artist, own both an art studio and a coffee shop--Kizmet Koffee--in Groves. The artist's biography below is quoted from the website fineartamerica.com, which offers several of his prints:
"I am an Australian now living in Texas USA with my wife. I have studied art since I was 12 years of age and have developed a passion over the years. My wife and I are supporters of local artists who don't have the opportunity to show or sell their works. You have no idea how many wonderful artists you can find in this way. I also teach children and adults at our studio, and also teach for several schools in the area. Bringing art to those who otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity to experience art, is a pleasure for me. There is nothing better than seeing someone's face light up when they finally 'get it!'"
The wood-stretchered painting is in excellent condition, with some minor wear to the edges. As you can see in photo # 8, Mr. Kreutzer has continued the paint onto the sides; finished this way, the painting does not require a frame and is referred to as being "gallery wrapped." Prints on canvas are sometimes colored on the sides to mimic this; on this painting, shown in photo # 9, the artist has randomly splashed some paint onto the back, which would not be the case with a print.
The title of this painting is inspired, as the row of dark red poppies on narrow green stems are set against a field of varied shades of golden paint that intriguingly reflect light. While it's definitely a modern take on a landscape, it works beautifully with contemporary and traditional interiors as well.
