This pretty pure white porcelain toast rack/letter holder was made in Germany pre-1949. There are five rounded arches with tiny molded flourishes on them; they form the dividers for four slices of toast or several letters, since the spaces between the arches measure 3/4 of an inch. The center divider is topped with a heart-shaped handle. The base, which measures 6 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide, is a raised rectangle. The rack weighs 10 ounces and is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips or crazing and just minor wear to the bottom of the platform base. It's stamped in green "Made in Germany," a mark which was first used in 1887 and was changed in 1949 when Germany was split in two after WWII.
This rack moves easily from your breakfast table to your desk, wherever it's needed, its pure white, unadorned china and clean-lined, classic design fitting in everywhere.
