One of the most difficult sizes to find in yellow ware bowls, this 5 inch diameter one was made of speckled, pale yellow clay, simply coated with a glossy, clear glaze. Molded with a paneled, ridged design, it's American in manufacture, having no ringing sound when tapped. The rim is dry and so is the underside of the 3/4 inch wide collar. The remainder of the bowl is glazed, including the bottom, which is incised with the number 5.
The bowl stands 2 5/8 inches high and weighs 3/4 of a pound. While the interior of the piece is pristine and there is no crazing of the glaze, the exterior of the bowl has a couple small chips and a few glaze skips. Not the smallest of a set (that would be the 3 inch), it is a very desirable size and displays handsomely.
