Hand made at the Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico, in the 1940's, this vase form pottery piece has polychrome painted geometric designs. The clay was hand shaped and the exterior scraped to smooth it, with the interior left rough to the touch.
This fine Native American art pottery vase measures 7 inches tall and about five inches across at the equator. Coated with a cream colored slip, it's painted with complex black and red symbols. The fluted rim has two chips (shown), which, while not offensive, do reduce the price. There is also one small chip in the black paint on one side (also pictured) and it has a somewhat aged and worn patina.
The flat bottom is signed in red with "Acoma Pottery" and the artist's initials: G.O.L. The vase weighs 3/4 pound and is an excellent find for the lover of pueblo pottery.
