Leopard Motif English Enamel Box

Halcyon Days
US$95.00
Item number: PYH 5673

The word "halcyon" means "a happy, peaceful period in the past." Halcyon Days enameled trinket boxes, made in Bilston, Staffordshire, England, hark back to the Bilston and Battersea enameled boxes made in the 18th century. Founded in 1950, Halcyon Days Ltd. holds all three Royal Warrants to the British Royal Household as Suppliers of objets d'art – one of only 14 businesses to hold all three. The firm began making enameled boxes in 1970.

The lid of this lovely oval box is decorated with a crouching leopard surrounded by green foliage with hills and blue sky in the distance. It's hinged to the bottom and has a scalloped handle to open it. The sides are a vibrant orange that continues onto the bottom, which is printed with the black Halcyon Days/Bilston and Battersea mark.

The interior of the copper trinket box is white enamel. Printed on the underside of the lid is a drawing of a pair of ostriches, one a male with his feathers spread to impress the female.

Measuring 2 inches wide across the lid, the box is 1 inch high to the top of the slightly domed lid and weighs 1 1/2 ounces. It is nestled in dark blue velvet in its original 3 inch square blue pasteboard box, along with its descriptive paper pamphlet titled "Certificate of Origin." We've shown all of this in our photos; if you'd like to read the information on the booklet, be sure to click on the photo to enlarge it. Everything is in excellent condition, with virtually no wear. It makes a wonderful gift...for a dear friend or for yourself.
