19th Century Maple Goblet

Antique
US$59.00
Item number: PYH 5614

This handsome antique goblet was hand turned in the 19th century from a solid piece of maple. The shape is classic, with incised turnings that retain some of the original graphite that was applied for emphasis. The color of the wood is rich and distinctive and displays beautifully.

The footed cup stands 5 inches tall; the narrow rim is out of round, so the 2 1/4 inch measurement of the diameter is approximate. The base diameter is 2 3/8 inches and it weighs 6 ounces. There are some rubs to the clear shellac coat; the inside of the cup and the underside of the base were not shellacked. There is also a small split on the base running from a knothole there, not unusual with antique treen pieces. There is some faint, indecipherable pencil writing on the bottom. Otherwise, this goblet is in very good condition, with no damage and minimal wear for its age.
