Hand Painted Shorebird Made in Italy

This shorebird is hand carved and finely hand painted. It's mounted on a brass stand fixed to a beautifully grained oval wooden base that measures 4 1/2 by 6 inches. The bird can be turned in various directions. The wings are relief carved and the eyes are carved as well. There is a foil label on the bottom that reads "SARREID LTD. Made in Italy" with the reference number 80. There are also four circles of felt to protect any surfaces the shorebird is placed on.

Sarreid, Ltd. was founded in Spain in 1967 by Alexander Sarratt and Walter Reid after a trip to Europe inspired them to import beautiful European décor to the U.S. The company is located in Wilson, North Carolina and sources its items from artisans in many countries including Italy, where this carving of a curlew was hand crafted.

The piece weighs 1 pound, 3 ounces and measures 10 1/2 inches tall. From the end of its long beak to the tip of its tail is 13 inches. It's in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or missing pieces. It's a great bird carving to add to a collection or stand alone on a table or shelf.
