This framed, limited edition print is a beautiful example of the current indigenous art of Australia. Created by listed Aborigine printmaker Doris Gingingara (1946-1999), the artwork focuses on a crow, a very special bird to Aborigines, guarding eggs in its nest. Her use of black and white tempered with shades of ochre produced this piece that gives a modern look to an ancient traditional Aboriginal theme, part of the set of beliefs Aborigines call "The Dreaming," which for centuries were drawn on the ground or on tree bark. Doris Gingingara preferred to use ink marker pens on paper to create her works; she also made silkscreens. Her artworks are in many collections and museums, such as The National Gallery of Australia in Canberra. That's her in the last photo.

This print is titled and dated in pencil lower left "crow and nest-1994" and numbered 76/500. The artist has signed it, also in pencil, lower right "D. Gingingara." The sheet size is 9 1/4 inches by 6 1/2 inches. It's matted in a plain white single cut board and framed in 1 1/4 inch wide, warm brown wood, finished with UV protection glass. The reverse is sealed with black dust paper, has a Certificate of Authenticity attached in a plastic sleeve and has a sturdy wire hanger installed; it weighs 2 1/4 pounds. The Certificate has an informative biography of Ms. Gingingara and a description of the creation process of the print. The overall framed measurements are 16 inches by 13 inches by 1 3/4 inches thick. It's all in excellent condition, the perfect Outback artwork for any room.
