This original watercolor and ink on textured art paper depicts the Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse, which stands over Lake Huron in Michigan. It was painted by renowned maritime artist Leo Kuschel (1933-2016), who created art with great precision and respect for nature. Mr. Kuschel was born in Detroit and lived all his life in Michigan, pursuing his art career painting and sculpting the beauty of the state he loved. His artworks have been purchased by the White House, U.S. Coast Guard Stations, museums and libraries, by companies like Prudential Insurance and by celebrities like actor Vincent Price (who bought three of Kuschel's pieces).
This beautiful painting is signed “Kuschel” in black ink near the lower right corner. It's presented behind glass with a narrow moss green mat, surrounded by a carved wood frame finished in a dark matte gold. Measured in the frame, the painting is 15 1/2 inches tall and 13 1/2 inches wide; the sight size of the painting is 10 3/4 inches by 8 3/4 inches. It weighs just under 2 1/2 pounds and is in superb condition---painting, glass, mat and frame. We were able to photograph the painting out of the frame while our framer installed new dust paper on the back, along with a coated horizontal hanging wire and two rubber wall bumpers at the bottom. This handsome original artwork by Leo Kuschel is ready to hang and admire.
