We love to examine vintage items and imagine where they came from and who had them. That’s why souvenir items are so fascinating. The vintage ones hail from an era when taking a trip was often challenging and sometimes arduous. Today’s trips are easier but the souvenirs are, for the most part, sadly disposable.
Not so with this handsome six inch plate depicting the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Someone purchased this plate, somewhat ironically marked 'Made in Germany' in silver script on the back, and proudly displayed it to show everyone how well-traveled they were.
In doing our research, we found that the view of the Capitol building shown on this plate dates to the early 20th century; there have been some changes since then. The plate is in excellent condition.
Enjoy owning an early 20th century bit of history!
