Verona Pattern Wood and Sons Lamp Bases
* Antique Pair
A rare pair of antique semi-porcelain lamp bases, these beautiful pieces were made in Staffordshire, England by the Wood & Sons Pottery. The pattern is Verona, an Imari type design, with iron red and cobalt blue predominating. A transfer was applied first and then heavily overpainted by hand, with gilding the final touch.
The bottom of each base is marked with a stamp in red that reads "WOOD & SONS STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND." The firm was called "Wood & Sons" from 1907-1910; "Ltd" was added in 1910, when they incorporated.
Each measuring 9 inches tall on a 3 1/4 inch diameter base, they are 5 inches across at the widest and weigh a bit over a pound.
These bases are in superb condition, with virtually no wear and absolutely no damage. Although they could be set on a brass base and wired as accent or buffet lamps, they also display beautifully on their own, and could even be used as vases to hold a silk stem or two.
