This beautiful framed oil painting on canvas sensitively portrays a young male flutist, lost in his enjoyment of the music he's making. Done in shades of lavender and blue, the artist's use of shadows and light has created an elegant and somewhat ethereal mood, with no other objects in the scene to distract our eyes from the central figure.
The portrait was painted by Constance Keating Elliott (1933 - 2016). Born in Albany, New York, she painted this artwork in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she later passed away. We had our framer put new dust paper and coated hanging wire (no more rusty, twisted wire!) on the back while retaining the label in photograph # 5, probably from an art show or exhibit. Mrs. Elliott signed the painting lower left with "Elliott." The final photograph is one of the artist.
The canvas measures 17 1/2 inches by 24 inches, with the half-round gilded wood frame adding 1/2 inch to the dimensions (the ones cited on the paper tag are slightly off). The painting is in very good condition, with three tiny dots of color loss on the right side of the canvas. You must look closely for them and we couldn't get them to show up in the photographs. The frame has a few rubs in the gilt, which we've pictured but is in very nice vintage condition otherwise.
Whether you love art, music or both, you'll treasure this handsome painting.
