This finely woven melon basket was found in Alabama and is a true Southern beauty. Made of hand cut white oak splints, it features a decorative course of narrow grapevines in various natural shades of brown that add an extra touch of artistry to one side of the basket. The handle is composed of three peeled grapevine branches that are expertly twisted and fastened to the body with large, well made God's Eyes.
This very large basket measures 22 inches in length by 14 inches in width. The top opening is 17 1/2 inches across and 11 inches front to back. The height including the handles is about 14 inches, the inside depth about 8 inches. It's a heavy basket, weighing almost two pounds, large and sturdy enough for a baby.
This basket is tight and in excellent condition--no breaks, no stains, no missing pieces. It will be a star in any collection.
