A very beautiful oval platter of fine earthenware, this hand painted piece was produced by Royal Doulton in Stoke-on-Trent in the 1940s. The pattern is Wild Rose; although Doulton originally named it "Roses G," the gorgeous wild roses on a mottled blue background make the current name more fitting. The body has a deep well and a lovely scalloped edge trimmed in dark brown.
The green Doulton mark on the back includes the letter A, which indicates production after 1942. The shape name is "Arnhem" and the pattern number is D6227, also marked on the back.
The platter measures 11 1/4 inches long and 9 1/8 inches top to bottom. Standing 1 1/2 inches high, it weighs 1 pound 10 ounces. The condition is excellent, with no crack, chips or repairs. Every piece in this pattern is a bit different due to hand painting but they complement each other to make a bold and colorful display. Add this platter to your collection or show it off by itself to add a splash of color and elegance.
