This beautiful, vibrant painting was done by listed Asheville, North Carolina artist David Skinner. It's acrylic on canvas, gallery wrapped around the stretchers so that no frame is needed. The scene focuses on a row of leafy trees with the setting sun a glowing pink behind them. With few minor details, using strong areas of color, David painted a modern, impressionist work of art. The brush strokes are flat and have little texture, creating a misty effect. To quote the artist, "In my work I straddle the divide between abstraction and representational painting, looking for a perfect balance between the two. I use photographs that I’ve taken out on location as my source material, and with each painting I’m trying to recapture the reflective moments found in nature."
Born in California, David Skinner was an Artist in Residence at Burren College of Art in Ballyvaghan, Ireland. He conducts a week-long art workshop there once a year and has painted many scenes of the local area, as well as in California, Virginia and North Carolina. He also teaches in Italy and at his busy studio in Asheville. His career has spanned thirty years, the last 20 of them focusing on landscapes.
The painting is signed bottom right in red "D. Skinner." It measures 16 inches by 16 inches by 1 1/2 inches and is in excellent condition. There is a sturdy hanging wire already installed on the back and we'll include the hanging hardware, as well. Since it weighs just over a pound, it can be easily propped on a shelf or table as well as hung on the wall. It's an elegant work of art that will enhance any room.
