Northern Bobwhite Quail Pair Hand Carved by Will Kirkpatrick
* Vintage Item
William E. (Will) Kirkpatrick (1939-) of Hudson, Massachusetts hand carved this superb pair of Northern bobwhite quail. Both quail are males, each in different poses, and they retain their beautiful original paint and inset glass eyes. The artist used kiln-dried native pine for the solid bodies and a piece of wood dowel to support them. The bases are natural slices of hardwood with the bark intact on the edges. The underside of each bird has Kirkpatrick's well-known WEK initials stamped into the wood.
The quail with his head down measures 5 1/2 inches tall to the top of his back and the one with his head up is 5 1/2 inches to the top of his head. Both are 7 inches long and weigh about 9 ounces each. They date from the 1980's and are in excellent condition with no damage and little wear. Displayed together or separately, these carvings are highly prized and very decorative.
