This beautiful pottery pitcher and its two matching mugs were hand made and hand painted by the ceramic artists of Manzano Garcia in the village of Lagartera, Spain. Lagartera, located in the Province of Toledo, is a short distance from Talavera de la Reina, another famous pottery center. Manzano Garcia is a small family run ceramics shop that has been making pottery for many years. The clay that these pieces were made with is a lovely pale yellow. The colorful designs--peach, green and black--- echo those on the local embroidery, a renowned centuries old craft in this town.
The large pitcher and the two mugs are in excellent condition; there are two small chips on the bottom rim of the pitcher and and a tiny chip on the bottom rim of one of the cups. There are no cracks, stains, crazing or color loss and they display wonderfully. (White spots are of course from our studio lighting.)The pitcher stands 10 inches tall, measures about 7 1/2 inches across the belly (25 inches in circumference) and has a 3 inch mouth and a 4 inch base. It weighs a sturdy 3 1/2 pounds. The matching mugs are 4 1/2 inches tall, with a mouth and a base that both measure about 2 3/4 inches in diameter and a weight of about 10 ounces each. They are hand signed in black on the dry bottoms: MG (for Manzano Garcia), LAGARTERA and the artist's initials "TO."
>>>Usage Note: This set is safe for serving liquids, since the pieces are fully glazed inside and lead free, but it's best to hand wash them.
