Glass artist Ioan Nemtoi has become well known for his fabulous one of a kind designer art glass pieces. Born in 1964 in Botoșani, a city in Moldavia, Romania, he graduated from the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts and stayed in Bucharest to establish his studio. Multiple exhibitions of his works in the US, Europe, Japan and Canada have established Nemtoi as a master glassblower and his creations have skyrocketed in value.
This vase is part of Nemtoi's Cordoba series. It exhibits the layers of vivid colors that are fired multiple times to create the abstract swirling patterns in shades of black, loden green and reddish orange, set against a background of glowing golden yellow speckled with dots of the reddish orange. Ovals with dark centers and fiery halos dart across the vase. The piece is cased, lined with an interior layer of solid golden yellow and finished with an upper rim in black. The cylinder shape ends in a rounded bottom with a ground and concave pontil mark. The artist’s signature, simply "Nemtoi" in script, is etched into the glass on one side near the base, as is his custom.
The vase measures 12 inches tall, 7 inches across the mouth and weighs 7 pounds 4 ounces. In excellent condition, with no chips, no cracks and no fleabites, there are shelf scratches on the bottom only (shown in our photo). A new vista emerges each time the vase is turned. It's a prima donna, drawing all eyes in every setting, dominating the room like a true superstar.
