This sturdy old basket was hand woven of grapevines over 9 ribs with a twisted hoop handle. It was made in an oval melon shape, but the basket maker gave it a design twist: the sides without handles dip lower instead of higher, giving the basket a nice large open look. Sometime in its past, it was painted a soft pink and then whitewashed over the pink with very pretty results. The color enhances a well-made basket.
This basket is a little over 13 inches tall to the top of the handle and about 6 inches deep without it. From handle to handle is almost 14 inches, while from side to side it's almost 13 inches across. One of the fine twigs is broken off on one of the upper sides, leaving a one inch gap, but otherwise the basket's in wonderful vintage condition to add to your collection or stand alone.
