Hand made of black walnut turned on a lathe, this vintage wooden bowl has a landscape hand painted by a talented artist. In predominantly blues and greens, the scene shows a wooded lake with a sailboat and a snow capped mountain in the background. The rim of the bowl is painted taupe, while the underside is stained a warm brown (darker than in our two photos of the bottom) but does not have a finish coat.
The bowl sits on a barely raised foot measuring 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/4 inches, with the cross-shaped incision of the chuck in the center. Overall, the bowl is slightly oval, measuring 12 inches across and 11 inches top to bottom, with a height of 3 inches. It weighs 1 pound ten ounces and is in excellent condition, with the matte paint colors strong and undamaged and the bowl itself free of chips, cracks and splits. A very attractive artwork, it makes a great table centerpiece and can be displayed on a shelf or easel as well.
