Artist Judie Bomberger collaborated with Cirque Du Soleil for nine years creating steel sculptures like this one that depicts one of The Comets from the show "O." The show has been permanently located at the The Bellagio in Las Vegas since October 1998. The Comets, dressed in their red coats and tall black boots, soar through the air and fall from the heavens in an aerial act over a 1.5 gallon pool. Judie Bomberger hand signed her sculpture in gold on the back, along with © 1999. Given the date, presumably this sculpture was purchased at The Bellagio; the original price tag is on the bottom of the base of the stand, with the price of $130.00. The Cirque du Soleil logo label is also intact; although both labels are a bit worn, it's nice to have them.
The sculpture was cut from steel and mounted on a 2 inch by 3 inch rectangular black base that is heavy and nicely stabilizes the sculpture from tipping easily. The piece stands 15 1/4 inches tall to the top of The Comet's head and 9 inches across from the outflung point of the coat to its opposite edge. Weighing a little over 2 pounds,it's in great condition, with minor chipping in a few spots along some of the edges and a two white flecks on the black inner lining of the coat. (All of the white on the boots is intentional painted decoration). None of this wear, as you can see in our photographs, detracts from the pizazz of this vibrant, colorful art sculpture.
