Papermaker Nancy J. Young ( 1939-present) has been making her beautiful handmade art since 1975. She earned a degree in geology from the University of Arizona and began a lifelong interest in petroglyphs. She incorporated those rock images into much of her artwork, as she has in this framed pair. Her work is in permanent corporate collections, in prominent private collections and has been extensively exhibited and published. Ms. Young was first listed in Who’s Who in American Art in 1984.

The process Ms. Young uses to make her art in her studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is detailed on the labels on the back of each of these pieces (shown in our photos). To quote from her description, "What began as a short fiber from a cotton boll is now a handcast paper artwork." The central images are cast in turquoise and set against textured, molded discs of vibrant ochre, evoking the colors of the desert. They are resting on a mat of turquoise with a second floating mat in off-white that's cut with a perfect circle to outline the image.

Referring to the first photograph, the upper artwork is entitled "Anasazi Man," while the lower one is "Lone Deer." Both have sleek gallery frames in brass-colored metal. Each is signed by Ms. Young on the actual cast paper on the lower right; she also titled and signed them in ink on the reverse sides.

Measuring 10 1/4 inches square, these original, hand crafted artworks each weigh 1 3/4 pounds and are in exceptional condition. They have sturdy hanging wires installed, so they're ready to add to a wall in your home or office---and admire.
