Romano Innocenti (1936-2005) was a master potter in the hills of Montefiesole in Florence, Italy. He became world-renowned for his distinctive style that blends traditional majolica with more modern motifs. Innocenti Ceramiche pieces have won many awards and are highly valued and avidly collected.
This spectacular, eight sided wall plate depicts large pale pink ranunculus with their leafy green foliage and flower buds, all set on a black background. The edge of the plate is decorated with a row of black and white petals and one of pale pink petals. It's signed in black script "Innocenti" in the center of the white rim that surrounds the deep well of the plate.
The plate is heavy, weighing nearly 3 1/2 pounds, stands 1 3/4 inches high and measures 11 inches across. The underside is partially covered in the white tin glaze, with the dry center exposing the reddish brown clay. Two drilled holes allow a hanging wire, which is flimsy for such a heavy plate and should be replaced. The plate is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or any other damage or wear. We've included a photo of a page containing an excerpt from the Italian magazine "le Cose" with information about Romano Innocenti. We'll send the article along with the pottery.
This Tuscan majolica wall plate, hand made and hand painted in Italy, is a focal point in any room, whether hung on the wall or propped on a shelf. The vibrant colors and masterful craftsmanship attract every eye.
