Basketville Vintage Nantucket Basket by Nathan Taylor

This handsome Nantucket form basket was designed by Nathan Taylor for Basketville of Putney, Vermont. It's made of black ash splints woven with rattan, with a swing handle fastened by brass buttons. The 4 1/4 inch diameter wooden base has a "Nathan Taylor Collection by Basketville" brass medallion on the interior bottom. The rim is nailed with tiny brads and wrapped with rattan strips.

The basket measures 4 1/4 inches high with the handle down, 10 inches tall with it up. From handle to handle it is 8 1/4 inches wide and it weighs 8 ounces. The basket, base and handle are all in excellent condition with no wear or damage and the piece displays beautifully.

A bit of history: Nathan Taylor opened "Nate's Nantuckets" in 1976; his baskets were featured in cover stories in Early American Life, Country Home and Country Living. He currently lives in Tennessee; his website sells basket kits. The 7 inch Nantucket kit sells for $75.00.
