A very evocative sculpture with minimalist lines, this tall, graceful carving was hand made of beech wood. It has a most interesting grain, with small knots and markings and a color somewhat lighter than in our photos, due to lighting. The smooth matte surface adds to the modern yet primitive simplicity of this sculpture.
Standing 17 inches high and weighing 4 3/4 pounds, it's an impressive artwork. Depicting a couple in a close embrace, bodies flowing as one, it's carved from a single block of wood about 3 1/2 inches thick. The measurement across the arms is about 5 inches. The base is a trapezoid measuring 2 1/2 by 3 1/4 inches; it's canted forward slightly for balance and stands evenly without tipping. (We wouldn't place it on or next to a piece of glass or other breakables though, without some museum putty on the bottom).
The sculpture is signed, with the initials A.S. carved in the bottom, along with the date of 1998 and the number 423. The piece is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips or missing pieces. It's a great accent for modern and eclectic interiors.
