A modern sculpture in copper and brass, this wall hanging was made by Higgins California. Formed of a copper triangle with a braid arrow of solid brass down the center front, this piece has a stylish, angular shape that looks dramatic with or without an arrangement of dried or silk stems.
This wall hanging measures 10 inches top to bottom down the brass strip and 9 inches tall on each side. The smaller triangular piece of copper that forms the back is 9 inches wide and 7 1/2 inches tall. At the top edge of the back there is a small hole for hanging (a finishing nail is perfect) and the stamped mark: HIGGINS CALIFORNIA with a rising sun over the letters. The hand soldering is visible on both seams. We believe it was made in the 1960's, although we could find no information on the company.** The wall hanging weighs one pound and is in good condition with a wrinkle in both of the upper points that touch the wall, but no cracks or chips or breaks. It has a darkened patina that we have left untouched and displays handsomely....a hand made modern piece that makes a statement on any wall.
**Thomas Higgins discovered a rich vein of copper in 1877 near Bisbee, Arizona. In 1910 he completed a tall modernist building in downtown Los Angeles he named The Higgins Building. We found no evidence of the connection between him and this wall vase except for the name, but it is intriguing.
