This sleek and elegant vase was made in the Empoli region of Italy. It is cased glass, which is one color of glass, in this instance a vibrant lime, layered over another color, which with this piece is white, known as "lattimo" ("milky glass" in Italian). This type of glass became popular in the 1950's into the 1960's, both for the simple, modernist shapes and the bright, dramatic colors.
This is an especially lofty, narrow vase; it's 16 inches tall, with a base 3 1/4 inches in diameter, a one inch neck opening and it weighs about 1 pound. It's hand blown, with a smooth, polished pontil. In excellent condition, it adds a great mid century vibe to any decor.
