This handsome bronze box of Asian origin was cast in the shape of a pumpkin-like squash with many grooves, topped with eight leaves and a curved, thick stem. It has a subtle, dark green verdigris finish, giving it a lovely aged appearance. The lid has two pegs on its inner edge that correspond to two holes on the rim of the bottom. They need to match up perfectly and when they do, the lid will firmly stay put.
This is not a small trinket box--it weighs 4 pounds, measures 6 1/2 inches across the lid, about 4 inches tall (not including the 1 3/4 inch tall stem) and has a round bottom 3 1/2 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition, with one of the lobes having a few minor scratches (shown in our last photo) and with some abrasion on the bottom. This box displays beautifully and will hold many small items while decorating your table or shelf.
