This beautiful wooden bowl was hand painted by artist Jeanine Anderson Guncheon of Forest Park, Illinois. With a degree in interior design from Harrington Institute of Interior Design in Chicago, she began her career as an artist in 1985. She describes herself as a "transformer," changing plain objects into color-drenched works of art, this bowl being a wonderful example. Since 2001, Ms. Guncheon has owned a gallery in Forest Park called Jeanine Guncheon Etcetera, where her artworks are for sale. According to a 2001 article in the Chicago Tribune, " Each of her pieces is shipped to galleries and private buyers almost as soon as it is completed. Her bowls sell for $275 to $1,400; her sculpture is in the $4,000 to 6,000 range, with her furniture priced even higher." We've included a photo of Ms. Guncheon, taken at her gallery.
This bowl is slightly oval, measuring 8 1/4 inches across in one direction and 7 1/2 inches in the other. It stands 2 inches high and weighs just 9 ounces. It's in excellent condition, with no chips, breaks or scratches. (The white spots in the photos are light reflections--they're not really there). The bowl is finished with a semi-gloss clear lacquer, so the gorgeous hand painting will last. It's a work of art to treasure now and in the future.
