This exquisite demitasse cup and saucer set was made in Limoges, France and hand painted for Birks, the famous Montreal-based stores offering jewelry, silverware and fine gifts, founded in 1879. The set is made of fine French porcelain, pure white, paper thin and translucent. The pedestal cup has a square foot and the saucer has a square indentation to match, a design not commonly found. It's painted in a lovely pale blue trim with garlands of deep pink roses and much gilding on the French loop handle, the rims, and in floral swags, including on the inside of the cup.

The bottom of the saucer, given its larger amount of area for writing, is marked most fully. The green stamped "LIMOGES FRANCE" is accompanied by a hand signed script in blue that states "Made in France Hand Decorated for BIRKS" followed by the decorator's initials. The cup has the script signature only. The cup is 2 3/4 inches tall and the saucer is 4 3/8 inches across. Both are in excellent condition, having obviously been cabinet pieces, never put into use. This set is a beautiful addition to a collection, for yourself or for a much appreciated gift.

****Gossip alert: According to Wikipedia, Birks is one of Meghan Markle's favorite jewelry sources; she "wore a pair of 18K yellow gold and opal earrings for her official engagement announcement to Prince Harry."
