A sparkling hand blown art glass vase, this beautiful piece comes from the studio of Dale Tiffany in La Mirada, California. Dale Tiffany began producing hand made art glass in 1979, making lamps and windows using methods developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany over 100 years earlier. The company then began creating decorative accessories like this beautiful Murano style vase.
This vase is from their Favrile line in the pattern called Milano. The amphora shape is so graceful, with its flared rim and two sandy-textured purple loop handles. The form tapers to a foot that's encrusted with aventurine which sweeps upward to the rim in four wide streaks of glittering coppery gold interspersed with flecks and streaks of pale green. (Aventurine glass imitates the mineral of the same name, a type of translucent quartz spangled with mica or other minerals.) It has a very generous amount of the aventurine, which gives it more than average iridescence. The bottom of the vase is indented, with a polished pontil, and is also heavily coasted with aventurine.
We have taken photos of the vase in various types of light, both artificial and natural, so you can see both the color of the glass and the gorgeous sparkles. The copy of the product card in one of the photos, which we found on the web, is for your information only; the actual card is NOT included with the vase.
This art glass vase measures 10 1/8 inches tall, 5 inches across at the body's widest point and 2 3/4 inches across the top, with a 3 1/4 inch wide base. It weighs 2 1/4 pounds and is in excellent condition, with no damage or wear that we could find. Since they're hand blown, Dale Tiffany art glass pieces are never exactly the same, creating one of a kind treasures.
