Renowned fine artist Jim Kavanagh lives and works in Annaghdown, in the west of Ireland near Galway. Born in 1960 in London, his career has spanned nearly 30 years. Jim Kavanagh’s Art School, founded some years ago at Stiúideo na Coiríbe, is located by the shores of Lough Corrib, and students come from all over to attend the art classes. Mr. Kavanagh's work is in private and corporate collections on four continents.
This beautiful watercolor is an example of his earlier work, when he was influenced by artists such as the English Romanticist J.M.W. Turner. Entitled "Devonshire Cottage," it depicts one of the lovely stone cottages in Devon, a county in England archaically known as "Devonshire." Mr. Kavanagh's contemporary paintings are influenced by Rothko and Pollock. To quote the artist: "In the last couple of years my interest has moved away from landscape painting, and has focused further skywards to the universe and beyond."
The sight size of this painting is 7 3/4 inches wide by 9 3/4 inches tall. Overall measurements are 11 inches wide by 13 inches tall and it stands about 1 1/4 inches away from the way, due to the stepped back on the frame. The frame is a pale brown wood, very matte finish, with inner liners of gold linen and metal. There is a gallery or art show label on the reverse along with a hanging wire, hanger and nail. In excellent condition, this charming watercolor will add an English country touch to your cottage.
