Painted in oils on canvas, this 1960's artwork was done by Ruth Lucier of San Jose, California. The scene depicts the steps and columns of ancient ruins, reminiscent of those on a island in the Aegean Sea. The hazy, impressionist tone of the colors and the subject matter itself create an almost otherworldly scene, complete with wheeling birds in the green sky. As ancient as the landscape is, the vibe is mid century modern. Ruth Lucier signed her painting in black printing lower left. On the reverse is a foil label that reads: Mrs. Jack Lucier "Lucier Originals" and her address and phone number (at that time) in San Jose.
The framed size of this painting is 10 inches by 12 inches; it projects from the wall 1 1/2 inches and weighs less than a pound. The frame is wood, painted pale gray on the outer edges, with several colors framing the work: a narrow white inner liner, a striated dark grey in the center and the outermost molding painted alternately in gold and pale grey. The sight size is about & 1/2 by 9 1/2. There's a small amount of wear on the frame but it's in very good condition, as is the painting. There is a sawtooth hanger installed on the back, but the painting is a great size for propping on a shelf with or without an easel.
