This colorful impressionist painting, entitled "Parke County Bridge," was done in the autumn of 1966 by Spiceland, Indiana artist Cordelia Wright. Depicting a lovely fall day along the Wabash River, the work is oil on a canvas panel with a sight size of 15 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches. The beautiful gilt finished wooden frame is 2 1/2 inches wide and features several different impressed designs and subtle decoration to the gilding.
Cordelia Wright (1917-2012) was born in Spiceland and lived there all her life. She was a member of both the Art Guild and the Art Association of Henry County. Her works were exhibited in many juried shows and have sold at auction. She was, by her own description in her written reminiscences, a Quaker artist, a homemaker and a farmer. The family genealogy she compiled and edited is in the Library of Congress. Mrs. Wright signed this painting "C. Wright '66" at the lower right and wrote this information on the back:
ARTIST: Cordelia Wright
NAME OF PAINTING: "Parke Co. Bridge"
PLACE OF PAINTING: " "
DATE OF PAINTING: Autumn '66

The painting is in excellent condition with no stains or tears. The frame is also excellent, with tight corners and a few rubs in the gilding along the bottom edge. The artwork projects two inches from the wall and weighs about 1 3/4 pounds. It's a pretty impressionist painting in a nice size to add a splash of color.
