This lovely pitcher is hand-painted with a beautiful pink moss rose motif with leaves and buds and dates from about 1880. There are touches of gilding in many spots. We’ve owned this pitcher for 30 years and have never been able to decipher the mark on the bottom. It is painted in gold, and since it has never turned up in all of the marks books we’ve consulted, we think it may be the initials of the artist who decorated it.
The pitcher measures 6 ½ inches high, 3 ¾ inches across the top including the pouring lip, 5 ½ inches across the top to the edge of the handle and 4 ¼ inches across the base. The gilding is worn on the handle and a bit in some other areas. The hand painted flowers are in excellent condition and there are no cracks and no chips.
