The late Pennsylvania decoy carver Richard Connolly (1957-2020) made this solid wood canvasback duck decoy. It's a drake, with its chestnut red head, black beak and red glass eyes. It's further identified as a male by the black breast, black rump and white sides, flank and belly, which is rounded, not flat. After he painted the decoy, Connolly distressed it, giving it a handsome antique appearance.

This duck is almost life-size, measuring 15 inches long from beak to tail, about 8 inches tall to the top of its head and about 7 inches across the breast. The weight is pretty much the average one for a canvasback male: 2 pounds, 5 ounces. The underside is signed "Richard Connolly" "1989" "#28" and "Canvasback." It's in outstanding condition, with no cracks, chips or other damage. This decoy was well taken care of and is a pleasure to own and display.
