This gorgeous satin porcelain vase was made during the Art Nouveau period, circa 1910, by Galluba and Hofmann in Thüringen, Germany. The ovoid shape swells gently to a curvy belly, then tapers to a round base. It's topped with a handkerchief rim, composed of four ruffled points. The sides raised medallions on four panels with much tracing in gold. The shades of blue accented with white are just lovely and so elegant.

The company of Galluba & Hofmann made luxury porcelain items; its peak was in 1913 and it closed in 1937. They earned a well-deserved reputation for high quality wares. Their mark, a shield topped with a crown and the initials "G" and "H" intertwined, was used from 1905 onward. It's double stamped in green on the bottom of this vase, along with "Marmorzellan," the name of the design line, and the impressed mold number 6995.

This vase is 8 1/2 inches tall, about 6 inches across at the belly, with a 2 inch wide mouth and a 3 1/4 inch diameter base. It weighs 1 pound 11 ounces and is in excellent condition. It has a rub to the glaze on the center of a panel (shown in our photograph #5) and both the interior bottom and the foot ring have some discoloration and dirt. These are the only signs of wear we could find. This antique porcelain vase is a superb and beautiful example of the German Art Nouveau/Jugendstil style.
