This beautifully crafted shell art box was a real labor of love for a talented artisan. The rows of seashells used to cover the wooden box are from ark clams with hundreds of broken bits of other shells cemented (with a thin layer of plaster) between them. Studded between the ark shells on the front and sides (but cleverly not on the back) are dozens of tiny whole shells such as drills and buttons and even the "knob' to lift the lid is a shell (part of a lightning whelk). Three edges are trimmed in silver rickrack and the interior is lined with royal blue velvet, which trims the edges of the lid when the box is closed. As a final touch, the four feet on the bottom, which is covered in royal blue felt, are ark shells, too.
